Block Diagram
Working Principle
Figure 1 shows the block diagram of SDS3101C(J). The number of LEDs in
LEDF1~LEDF2 is smaller than LED1~LED4. LEDF1 and LEDF2 are fine adjust
LED segments, LED1~LED4 are coarse adjust segments. Regulator generates
internal low voltage power supply VDD6p5. PMOS driver controls the
external PMOS, turning fine adjust LED segments on and off. Output
driver and current sense module, drives the coarse LED segments
LED1~LED4, and measures the current in LED. Voltage reference module
generates reference voltage for other module. Over temperature
protection module detect the chip temperature, when the temperature
is higher than the protection temperature, the driving current is
reduced to reduce the temperature. Over voltage protection module
detect the voltage at the VDET node, when the voltage is higher
than then the threshold value, the chip enters the over voltage
protection mode, all the LEDs are turned off.
The control logic, controls the output driver modules and PMOS
driver modules. When the rectified AC line voltage is rising,
the fine adjust LED segments and coarse adjust LED are lighted
in sequence, the number of LEDs on is increasing, so most of
the line voltage are dropped over the LEDs. When the AC line
voltage is falling, the fine adjust LED segments and coarse
adjust LED are turned off in sequence, the number of LEDs
on is reducing, and most of the line voltage are dropped over the LEDs.

Figure 2 shows the application circuit. The VR1 is varistor,
when the AC input is over voltage, the varistor provide leakage path.
Fuse F1 provides secondary over current protection for system.
M1 and M2 are used to turn on and off LEDF1 and LEDF2.
Vref is reference voltage output. The DOUT1~DOUT4 threshold
current is adjusted through R5 and R6. The output power of
SDS3101C is adjusted by tuning the R5 and R6 ratio.

When R5=100K, R6=100K, the output power for the driver chip
is about 18W in 220V application. When the R6/R5 ratio is
reduced, IDOUT1~IDOUT4 is reduced, and current in LED is reduced,
and realize 6W, 12W output power.
